Keep It REALISTIC. GOAL SETTING FOR 2019.
Setting goals is one of the hardest things to do. Let’s be honest, you know what you want to achieve, but actually sitting down and breaking it down, is a little bit more of a tougher challenge. At the beginning of every year, goal setting has become somewhat of a MANDATORY step, especially If you are a planner. It is a good way in which to organise your thoughts, what you want to achieve, setting time stamps as to WHEN you want to achieve each goal and HOW. These are very important steps when goal setting.
Some people work well with just setting the goal, time frame and how to achieve it, all in their head. For the rest of us however, it’s not that simple. For me my plans are better understandable FOR ME, by personally writing them down and framing thoughts and action plans from there. It is important to acknowledge that to make a goal achievable, you MUST be realistic about:
- WHAT you want to achieve?
- WHEN you want to achieve it by?
- HOW to plan on executing the steps necessary to achieving your goal?
This is why planning is KEY. So crucial to cementing what you plan on doing, and eventually realising that goal.
WHAT IS A REALISTIC GOAL??
A realistic goal is something that is slightly easier to achieve. Now this could be a personal goal in terms of self development and personal growth, or even something work, financial or otherwise, related. REALISTIC is the key word here folks ok? R.E.A.L.I.S.T.I.C.
I personally don’t get along with the notion of NEW YEARS RESOLUTIONS, but I firmly believe in GOAL SETTING. Realistic means it must be tangible, not difficult to work on and achieve. Soooo here are some examples of REALISTIC GOAL SETTING.
PERSONAL GROWTH GOAL EXAMPLES:
- KEEPING IN TOUCH with loved ones
- EATING HEALTHY
- READING more
- SPIRITUAL GROWTH (going to church, meditation, etc)
- TAKING CARE OF YOUR MENTAL HEALTH
- WORKING OUT MORE
- VOLUNTEERING more
- SAVING MORE
- BEING BETTER AT WORK
- BEING MORE PRODUCTIVE
- DATING/MEETING NEW PEOPLE
- MOVING & CHANGING ENVIRONMENTS
These are tangible goals that you can work towards, that have really, an unlimited time span as to when and how to achieve them. Planning the the goals and setting forth to constructing HOW to achieve them, is something only you can do. It is important to set these goals, as it helps you formulate where you want to go, and who you want to be at the end of the day. See them as fruitful challenges to making you a better version of yourself, but only choose those which you want to work on the most. Another important factor to consider is not to be hard on yourself. Do not pick too many goals that will make it hard for you to even keep up. I say 3-5 goals should be your max.
Think about it, plan and start working. Your goals will not be achievable if you are not willing to put in the work. 🙂
